Seawind Cellars - Coastal California Pinot Noir & Chardonnay

Last night, I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with winemaker Ken Dunkley from Seawind Cellars, while he poured his wines for all to taste at the Wine 2.0 event at Crushpad (San Francisco).

Ken is true gentleman with an amazing passion for winemaking.  While we tasted his 2006 Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay and award-winning Pinot Noir from the same vineyard, Ken explained how the Santa Lucia Highlands and its longer season with “cool marine winds” influence the grape growing conditions, allowing the grapes to fully develop.  Here’s a video of Ken at Crushpad:

Personally, one of the most interesting aspects of tasting wine is learning about the winemakers and the winemaking process.  I relate it to hearing a musician talk about the meanings behind their songs.  In turn, meeting Ken and listening to him speak about his beautiful wines made for a memorable and enjoyable wine tasting experience.
