A good food & wine experience over the weekend in N.H. was…

Hello Everybody,

You know when you try a bottle of wine you’ve never had before,¬†end up loving it, and then you’re on the lookout to find it in a store near you? This happened over the weekend.

My wife an I attended a wedding in Portsmouth, N.H. and we were honored to be part of the rehearsal dinner on Friday night at Cafe Mediterraneo. We chose to have a glass of Layer Cake Primitivo (a.k.a. Zinfandel) Vintage 2006. This wine is produced in the wine region of Puglia, Italy. ¬†According to the Layer Cake Wines website, their Primitivo is “100% Pure Old Vine Primitivo from Salento, the “Heel of the Boot” of Italy; specifically the area of Manduria.”

This wine is very dark in color, and presented a creamy balance of jammy fruit balanced with white pepper. The best part, this bottle is about $16 in stores but tastes like it’s worth a LOT more. Layer Cake Primitivo is a great bottle, played nice with all the food we ordered (listed below)… so give it a try if you can. This Primitivo didn’t over power the food and it ended up being a good little wine pairing on the night for:

ANTIPASTO - Assorted Italian meats and cheeses, hot cherry peppers, mixed greens and a balsamic vinaigretteCAPRESE - Mozzarella del la Casa, Pomodoro e Basilico
(homemade mozzarella, tomatoes and fresh basil)

VEGETARIAN
- Onions, peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, eggplant and zucchini served in a marinara sauce with linguini

BAKED SALMON - Baked salmon with a creamy lobster dill sauce over lobster ravioli and mixed vegetables
Just thought I’d share a cool food and wine experience and a reasonable bottle you may enjoy.

Cheers!
