A New Wine App for the Entire Android Community
Concerning mobile apps, most people think “iPhone” or “there’s an app for that”. We can all thank Apple’s multi-million dollar TV ad campaign for this. But, Android is growing in popularity and increasing market share incredibly fast. Like, “Michael Johnson in the 1996 Olympics” fast.
Wine Lovers: Now, There’s an Android App for That
We’re pleased to announced the release of our free Android app. We took the exact same approach as our hugely popular iPhone app (currently serving over 500,000 wine recommendations every month), where the app provides help choosing a wine when you need it most - in the store or at a restaurant.
To download the free app, search for ‘Hello Vino’ on the Android Market, or enter your email address below, and we’ll send you a message with a direct link to tap on from your Android device:
We made sure to include the thousands of delicious wine and food pairings, ideas for wine gifts at holidays and occasions, a wine search engine, and reviews from the Web’s best wine writers. We did, however, leave some room for improvement…
Inviting Everybody to the Party
Allowing anybody with an Android device to use the Hello Vino app is extremely important to us. This is very different than the regulated iTunes App Store, in that there are several different types of devices that run several different versions of Android. We want to make sure that 100% of Android users can install and use the Hello Vino app.
In the graphic above, you’ll see that 25% of Android users are still on versions 1.5 and 1.6. Unfortunately, this restricts some of the features we can ship in our “version 1.0” of the Hello Vino app. Most notably, the Twitter and Facebook features that allow you to share your favorite wines and pairings with your friends. However, as more users upgrade their devices to Android version 2.1+, we will be releasing free updates to the app that include these social features.
A Poll: Android or iPhone?
We’d love to hear about which mobile device you favor, and also which apps you find most useful. Drop a comment, and please let us know what you think about the new app.
Cheers!
The Hello Vino Team
P.S. Keep an eye out for the mega-huge “2.0” version of Hello Vino, coming very soon!
